Biography

Karen "Karie" Huchting

Karie Huchting, Ph.D. is a tenured full professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at Loyola Marymount University School of Education and is a core faculty member in the Doctoral (Ed.D.) Program in Leadership for Social Justice, where she teaches quantitative research methodsĀ and dissertation writing courses. In April 2021, Dr. Huchting became the Director of LMU's Center for Teaching Excellence where she curates professional development workshops for LMU faculty related to pedagogy and learning.

Dr. Huchting's expertise is in quantitative research methodology and survey construction. She is skilled at mixed methods research, assessment, and program evaluation. Broadly speaking, her research focuses on educational psychology and issues of social justice in education. Her current scholarship partners with the Diversity in Leadership Institute and demonstrates the positive impact leaders of color have on public and public-charter schools in California. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters related to the preparation of educational leaders to challenge the status quo. She has also authored manuscripts examining the transition of students from high school into college. She is an author of a textbook on classroom assessment practices and has served as the principal investigator on several federal and foundation grants.

Dr. Huchting has served as an editor for a peer-reviewed academic journal and as Chair of a Special Interest Group for the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Applied Social Psychology and an M.A. in Education.
