Biography
Dr. Karen Komosa-Hawkins is a Clinical Professor and Academic Program Director for the School Psychology Program within the School of Education’s Department of Specialized Programs in Professional Psychology at Loyola Marymount University (LMU). Karen earned a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and an M.A. in Community Counseling and a Ph.D. in School Psychology from Loyola University Chicago. She holds credentials in school psychology and administrative services, as well as a license in educational psychology. Karen has worked as a school psychologist, mental health specialist, special education administrator, and educational consultant/advocate. Additionally, Karen has trained, mentored, and supervised hundreds of school-based professionals over the last two decades across three Southern California school districts, at LMU, and beyond. Her goal is to inspire and support future school-based mental health professionals in cultivating their own cultural competence and leadership capacities to prioritize equity and inclusion, while facilitating transformative educational practices that foster resilience and promote success in ALL students.
