Biography
Dr. Ken Silverstein is the chief physician executive of ChristianaCare.
In these roles, he has overall responsibility for the clinical enterprise of ChristianaCare. This includes ensuring high quality care in all care settings, guiding the continued growth of clinical services, developing payor strategies that move away from fee-for-service and toward value-based care models, and ensuring the success of the organization's population health strategy.
Dr. Silverstein joined the Medical-Dental Staff of ChristianaCare in 1991 as an anesthesiologist. He previously served as chair of ChristianaCare’s Department of Anesthesiology, medical director of Perioperative Services, chief medical officer and chief clinical officer.

ChristianaCare, Beebe healthcare and Bayhealth announced this week they are temporarily postponing elective surgeries, ones that aren’t time sensitive. But ChristianaCare’s Chief Physician Ken Silverstein says despite this surge in new cases, the hospital is far better prepared than last year. “Every surge of COVID has been different,” he says. “This one is different in that we know what we’re going with COVID, we’re not blindingly just shutting down services. We know that the community needs us to provide care in areas other than COVID. And so we are doing everything we can to continue to provide those services.”

He said the COVID-19 “surge has been combined with what was already a high demand for hospital services that’s actually unrelated to COVID, and it’s just creating extraordinarily high volume of patients who need hospital and emergency care.”
