Biography
Kim Ray is an award-winning writer, director, and producer whose work spans feature film, premium documentary, and scripted and unscripted television. Her feature script WHAT THEY SAW received an 8 on the Black List, placing it among the highest-rated scripts on the platform. The project has talent attached and is currently being packaged with Ray attached to direct.
Ray has extensive experience working with high-profile talent and leading projects from development through production and post. She produced the Netflix documentary GAGA: FIVE FOOT TWO, winner of the MTV Documentary Award, and directed and executive produced ABOUT FACE (Roku), featuring founders of billion-dollar beauty brands including Kylie Jenner, Huda Kattan, and Emily Weiss. In 2026, Ray produced the psychological horror feature MALACODA, slated for release in 2027. She has also directed commercials for Fortune 500 brands.
Ray co-wrote and produced the Academy Award–winning short film WEST BANK STORY, which premiered at Sundance and went on to receive dozens of festival awards worldwide. She also wrote and directed the award-winning sci-fi short THE CONNECTION, developed with the mentorship of Avatar producer Jon Landau.
Ray holds an MFA in Production/Directing from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts and serves on the executive board of USC Women in Cinematic Arts. She is a member of the Television Academy and Women In Film. Her screenwriting has placed in many competitions, including the BlueCat Screenwriting Competition, the Austin Film Festival, and the International PAGE Awards, where she was named a 2026 Quarterfinalist for her sci-fi thriller FASTER.
She has previously served as an Adjunct Professor at USC and a Professor at Savannah College of Art and Design before joining Loyola Marymount’s School of Film and Television as an Assistant Professor.
