Biography

Professor Larry Palato earned his master’s degree in chemistry from University of California, Santa Barbara and his B.S. in biochemistry from Loyola Marymount University. His research at UCSB focused on unknown chemistries in the biological redox cycle of phosphorus and he remains interested in the enzymatic details of living processes. He is thrilled to return to his alma mater and experience LMU from the other side of the podium. Between his degrees, Professor Palato served as a volunteer teacher at the Mahpiya Luta Schools in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. His time with the Lakota people was transformative and confirmed his vocation as an educator. Professor Palato hopes to use his time at LMU to inspire his students to pursue their passions and encourage them to be open to the unpredictable journey that life tends to be.
