Biography

My research has the overall goal of identifying pathways to balance human resource use with the conservation of biodiversity. I am motivated by providing solutions to conservation problems. I develop and apply approaches grounded in spatial statistics, spatial ecology and conservation decision science.

I have worked with NGO's in various local communities in Bolivia, South Africa, Guinea, and Mexico. I am currently leading a project with the University of Victoria (Canada), the goal of which is to develop a cost-effective management plan for the Fraser River Estuary.

I am also the founder of a campaign that allows individuals to replant their share of deforestation. So far, we have planted over 70 thousand trees. Visit 400trees.org for more information on planting trees with us (including fancy gift certificates).
