Biography

Dr. Lauren Morrison is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychological Science at Loyola Marymount University (LMU). Her academic work examines how Black families are affected by the structural and sociocultural environment of the United States. She has previously researched the impact of neighborhood-level factors (e.g., resource availability) on parenting behaviors in the Black community and has expanded her work to examine Black maternal health experiences and disparities. Ultimately, Dr. Morrison aims to utilize research to inform policies that alleviate stress for Black families and contribute to positive systemic change.

Dr. Morrison is a proud alumna of LMU, where she earned her B.A. in Psychology with a minor in bioethics. Following her undergraduate studies, Dr. Morrison earned her M.A. in Psychology and Ph.D. in Social and Health Psychology from Stony Brook University (SBU). As a doctoral student, she received several fellowships to support her research and professional development, such as the SBU Dr. W. Burghardt Turner Fellowship, SPSSI Summer Minority Policy Fellowship, SBU Joyce Dissertation Fellowship, and the NSF Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) Fellowship.

Dr. Morrison also aims to promote diversity and enhance representation in psychology. To advocate for this cause, she has served on panels detailing the graduate school application process, mentored underrepresented students, and given community-based presentations to improve the accessibility of academic research.

As a clinical professor, Dr. Morrison looks forward to leveraging community partnerships in Southern California to develop experiential learning opportunities for students, focusing on policy engagement and community health outreach.
