People who bear witness to other people's pain and suffering need support to do the work they do. They also need to take good care of themselves.
What Nurses Should Know about PTSD
Many of our patients have survived childhood trauma. The experience of hospitalization often recalls circumstances of earlier abuse: immobility, vulnerability, fear, powerlessness. Knowing this, nurses can take steps to provide trauma-informed care.
