Biography
Dr. Campbell is a Senior Research Fellow at Saint Mary's University in Halifax. She moved to Halifax from a Canada Research Chair (Tier II) faculty position at Queen's University. Her research and teaching focus on contaminants in the environment and on sustainability / resilience issues, with particular emphasis on aquatic ecosystems and water resources. She obtained her PhD from University of Waterloo where she studied mercury biogeochemistry in African Great Lakes with Drs Bob Hecky and George Dixon. Her MSc was from University of Alberta where she focused on biomagnification trends of organochlorine contaminants in a sub-alpine lake in the Canadian Rocky Mountains under Dr. David Schindler's supervision. In 2009, Dr. Campbell was selected as one of the national Top 40 under 40 awardees for her professional and service contributions. Her research group at Saint Mary’s examine environmental contaminants across the Nova Scotia and around the world. Currently, her team is focusing on the impact of century-old historical gold mine sites on freshwater ecosystems in Nova Scotia.
