Community-Based Case-Finding for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Self-Management Education in Partnership with Faith-Based Organizations
International Journal of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease2026
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is poorly diagnosed with millions unaware they have the condition, preventing or delaying treatment and behavioral changes. We partnered with faith-based organizations (FBOs) to raise awareness of COPD among Black Americans by facilitating diagnosis and offering self-management education in the community.
C37-02 Sociodemographic Differences in Adherence to Recommended Respiratory Vaccines and the Role of Chronic Respiratory Diseases
American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine2026
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma are leading causes of healthcare burden in US. These two chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) are characterized by airway inflammation and airflow restriction, pathological processes often worsened by respiratory infections (RIs) leading to increased hospital utilization.
C37-04 Influence of Chronic Respiratory Disease on Respiratory Vaccine Uptake Among Black Americans
American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine2026
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma present varying burden in the United States. Black Americans have a higher prevalence of asthma and experience more disease-related complications, compared to White Americans, while those with COPD report having worse symptoms and health-related quality of life.
Breast Cancer Risk Factors and Breast Complaints Among Kenyan Women
JCO Global Oncology2026
To estimate the prevalence of breast complaints (discharge, mass, pain, skin changes, breast asymmetry) and well-established risk factors for breast cancer (BC) in Kenyan women who underwent clinical breast examinations (CBE) and determine the relationship between breast complaints and hormonal and lifestyle factors.
Enhancing disease and management knowledge among Black Americans with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
American Journal of Health Promotion2025
Lack of knowledge contributes to disparate outcomes among Americans with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study assessed the impact of an educational intervention on disease knowledge and management in Black Americans with asthma or COPD.
