Biography

I was born and brought up in Ireland. Having always been interested in other languages and cultures, I did all my further education and training with a view to working internationally and interculturally. I´m a certified simultaneous translator English/Spanish Spanish/English, a certified language trainer, a certified intercultural communication trainer and co-active coach. I have lived and worked in Ireland, England, Bolivia and Germany for long periods of time and have worked in roughly twelve other countries ranging from Uruguay to the USA to the Ukraine by the way of several European countries. I give seminars, workshops, presentations and one-on-one coaching sessions in everything to do with working internationally and interculturally. I give keynote speeches at national and international conferences. I am also involved in international organizations on a volunteer basis. I am a Distinguished Toastmaster and am working on a second DTM in German. I´m the Chair of the Atlanta-Nuremberg Committee, a Sister City organisation. I speak on topics related to diversity, intercultural networking, intercultural presentations, intercultural humor, culture shock and how to avoid it, whether to accept a position outside your own culture or not. I´m very interested in intercultural mediation and its role in society and political life. I coach people, mostly women, who are at a crossroads in both their business and professional life and help them to unleash their hidden resources and potential. I am very interactive in the work that I do. Humor and storytelling are important elements of my work and daily life. I do all my training, etc., in English, German and Spanish. I have mentored countless young people with a view to helping them to develop their vision for their future. At the moment I´m extending my range to moderating international and EU conferences.

Why can´t the others be like me?

Do I know my own cultural rules? Do I know my own values? Let´s look at the written and, crucially, the unwritten rules of our culture. What are the core values? What are the important rituals? Who are the "heros"? What symbols show us who we are? When I know the answer to these questions, I can look at the other culture and get to the root of the differences I encounter in communication and behavior. The result is confidence in my ability to be successful in business outside my own culture.
