Greer said: “The rise in giving to higher education very much chimes with what we have seen at CAF. For many years education has been the most popular cause supported by dual US-UK taxpayers through the CAF American Donor Fund, reflecting the American tradition of donors supporting schools and universities they attended, or their children may have attended.

The way that is structured is that there is a UN foundation in New York and there is a Swiss foundation that are receiving those funds and passing that through to the WHO for their work.

Amid debate around the UK’s response to the coronavirus and timings of lockdown, the one point of near universal agreement is that lives are for ever changed – and for many, so are our priorities. For many clients, the ‘new normal’ will mean they return to organisations that are struggling, some are shrinking, some will disappear, while most are considering how to mobilise and motivate a workforce which remains largely at home.

As I write in the thick of the UK’s Covid-19 lockdown, it’s near impossible to come to terms with the tragedy – the tens of thousands of deaths, the hundreds of thousands who have fallen seriously ill and the billions worldwide who find ourselves in lockdown measures that have wreaked havoc in the US and world economies. For many of us, especially in the first days, it was a struggle to know how to respond, how to help, even where to begin.
