Biography
Mary Trunk is a filmmaker, choreographer, and multi-media artist residing in Altadena, CA. Her work explores personal and intimate themes within ordinary experiences.
She delves into the disintegration of families, the complex decisions that women face as both mothers and artists and the process of aging for dancers. Through these seemingly simple subjects, she highlights their connection to larger existential questions: how do we interpret our pasts? What opportunities lie before us? And how do we find purpose in our lives? In her screen dance projects, Mary integrates cinematic techniques with choreographic methods to create compelling, emotionally poetic experiences. With over three decades of experience, she has produced and directed documentaries, dance videos, experimental hybrid films, as well as paintings. Mary is a film, video, and screen dance Professor at Loyola Marymount University, Mt. St. Mary’s University, and Art Center College of Design.
