MATTHEW HARWOOD serves as a field liaison as part of the adjunct faculty.
Harwood has been working in the field of HIV/AIDS for more than 25 years. He earned his Master of Social Welfare from the University of California, Los Angeles. His first professional role as an MSW was as a clinical social worker in an HIV medical clinic in Los Angeles County. After becoming a licensed clinical social worker in 1996, he began his teaching career for LA County’s Office of AIDS Programs and Policy. As a trainer, he taught HIV/AIDS pre- and post-test counseling and HIV case management certification courses. He then served as an intern training coordinator of mental health services for AIDS Project Los Angeles. In this capacity, he recruited, trained and served as field instructor for the agency’s MSW and Marriage and Family Therapy students.
He currently maintains his own clinical consultation practice, providing clinical consultation and supervision to staff of HIV as well as other service providers. In addition, he teaches pre- and post-licensure courses through the National Association of Social Workers-California Chapter, the LA County Department of Mental Health, Pacific Clinics Training Institute and other organizations throughout the state.
