Biography

Manion is the Faculty Director of the Villanova School of Business' Center for Church Management —the first of its kind in the nation, founded in 2004. The Center offers a Master of Science in Church Management and conducts research in the areas of administration, professional financial management, and human resource management as they apply to the Catholic Church and its institutions. As Faculty Director, Manion's mission for the Center is to educate clergy and laity so they may better lead, plan, organize, and steward the resources of their faith community. As a Professor of Practice at Villanova School of Business, Manion teaches courses on Leadership, Ethics, Catholic Social Teaching, Organizational Management, and Pastoral Strategic Planning.

Archdiocese of Philadelphia Partners with Villanova School of Business Center for Church Management

Philadelphia Archdiocese and Villanova University have entered into a partnership to offer a Master’s degree in Church Management. Matthew Manion, faculty director for the Villanova Center for Church Management, says the partnership came about as a result of work the University had done in the past with St. Charles Borromeo Seminary and selected parishes in the Archdiocese.

Five years ago I was teaching a leadership course for a group of priests in Rome when we heard that Pope Benedict XVI had resigned. In an interview with a BBC reporter outside of the Basilica of St. Peter, I shared my opinion that it took a tremendous amount of courage for him to retire, the first pope to do so in more than 400 years. I still believe it was an act of inspired leadership done out of love and concern for the church and her people.

Matthew Manion New Faculty Head for Center for Church Management at Villanova University School of Business

The Villanova University School of Business has appointed Matthew Manion as the new faculty director for the Center for Church Management, writes Lou Baldwin for Catholic Philly.

Manion will replace Dr. Charles Zech, who has decided to step down from his role as the faculty director for the Center for Church Management (CCM) and Master’s of Science in Church Management Program.
