Focused on adults and healthy aging with expertise in addiction, trauma, relationship concerns, depression and anxiety.


MAUREEN MACIAS is an adjunct lecturer at the school’s Virtual Academic Center. Since 2011, she has taught courses in mental health and military social work.

She has been working in private practice for the past five years in the Richmond, Virginia, area. In her practice she provides outpatient therapy for a variety of issues, including addiction, trauma, relationship concerns, depression and anxiety. She utilizes several modalities such as traditional talk therapy with an emphasis in cognitive-behavioral therapy, 12-step facilitation, specialized trauma work, motivational interviewing, mindfulness and social skills.

Her expertise is in direct delivery of mental health services to veterans and civilian consumers with severe mental illness as well as mentoring workers in the workplace. Prior to private practice, Macias worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs for eight years as a clinical social work case manager, while also serving as co-chair social work student coordinator for the Long Beach VA Medical Center.
