Biography

Melissa Álvarez Mangual, Ed.D. is a scholar-practitioner, learning and development executive, and executive leadership coach laser focused on cultivating bravery and strategic action in clients to be emotionally intelligent, inclusive and equitable leaders that transform organizational culture and practices. Dr. Álvarez Mangual draws on over 20 years of experience in learning and organizational development in global and federated organizations and institutions. She is the founder and Managing Principal of Thriven Partners, LLC a boutique coaching and consulting firm specializing in mental fitness, emotional intelligence, womxn in leadership, and inclusive and equitable leadership coaching. Dr. Álvarez Mangual earned her Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership Studies from Northeastern University, an MA from DePaul University, and a BA from Florida State University. She is also a Certified Diversity Executive (CDE), certified business and diversity coach, certified mentor coach, and advanced certified SCUBA diver who, while going deep with clients, helps them to recognize diversity and inclusion as driving forces behind organizational relevance, sustainability, and success.

A common statement I hear from white mid- and senior-level leaders during or after participation in racial equity or diversity and inclusion training is, “This is complex, it’s systemic; I just don’t know what I can do to change things.” They often express feelings of overwhelm, powerlessness, uncertainty and, in some cases, fear, whether they use these exact words or not.
