About
Michael H. Slotkin, Ph.D. (Mike) holds an appointment as Professor of Economics in the College of Business at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. He earned his doctoral degree in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and has taught economics courses in undergraduate, graduate, and executive MBA programs for more than 20 years. He has published articles in peer reviewed academic journals such as the International Journal of Management and Decision Making, the Journal of International Education in Business, the Journal of Vacation Marketing, the Journal of Accounting and Finance Research, and others.
Dr. Slotkin is frequently asked to comment on local, regional, and national economic matters by regional newspapers as well as make media appearances on local public television. His research and consulting interests include sustainability and ecotourism, economic impact assessments, feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and pedagogical issues. Under contractual arrangement with FIT Consulting, Dr. Slotkin is currently collaborating with with his colleague Dr. Alex Vamosi in the production of a tourism trend magazine for the Space Coast Office of Tourism.
Originally from Miami, Florida, Dr. Slotkin resides in the town of Grant-Valkaria with his girlfriend Karen and their three cats: Zippy, Curry, and Luna. He is a long time Miami Dolphins football fan.

The Space Coast's spring break season lasts through Easter weekend, generally speaking. Amid increasing COVID-19 cases across Florida, Port Canaveral cruise ship travel advisories and the roiling stock market, "we're in a brave new world right here," said Michael Slotkin, a Florida Institute of Technology professor of economics.
