Adjunct Assistant Professor focused on adolescents with anxiety and depression, juvenile detention, mental illness, STDs and HIV.


As director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health's Immunization Program, MICHELLE PARRA plans, directs and evaluates programs and services to increase immunization coverage levels and reduce the occurrence of vaccine-preventable diseases in Los Angeles County. Previously, she was the director of the Department of Public Health's Injury and Violence Prevention Program. Prior to the Department of Public Health, Parra was the evaluation core leader at the UCLA/RAND Center for Adolescent Health Promotion and project director of the children with HIV-infected parents study at the center.

Dr. Parra has extensive experience running large-scale, National Institutes of Health-funded multi-site projects, as well as expertise in secondary data analysis of large datasets, and training and use of psychological assessments. She has spent 18 years working in research settings with a variety of populations, including adolescents with anxiety and depressive disorders, adolescent girls in juvenile detention, chronically mentally ill outpatients, outpatients with sexually transmitted diseases and HIV-infected adults and adolescents.
