Biography

Dr. Michelle A. McKay is a critical care nurse with over 25 years of experience caring for older adults affected by trauma. Her extensive clinical expertise has shaped a research career focused on improving outcomes for older adults, particularly through the prevention of falls and the management of mobility-related symptoms.

Dr. McKay’s research investigates the complex relationship between mobility difficulties, symptom burden, and fall risk in older adults. Her work aims to develop innovative, evidence-based strategies that enhance safety, independence, and quality of life for older adults living in the community. She has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the fields of gerontology, nursing science, palliative care, and interdisciplinary education.

At Villanova University’s M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing, Dr. McKay serves as Co-Director of the Gerontology Interest Group (GIG), an interdisciplinary initiative dedicated to improving the care of older adults through education, research, and service to local and national communities. Under her leadership, the GIG fosters collaboration among faculty, students, clinicians, and community members to address pressing issues in aging.

Dr. McKay has been recognized as a Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing and has received numerous awards for excellence in research, teaching, and clinical practice. Her commitment to mentorship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community engagement continues to shape the next generation of nurses and researchers dedicated to advancing the science and care of aging.
