Biography
My work focuses on animal-free sustainable agriculture, mostly in the Global North. In recent years I have collaborated with academic researchers and veganic growers on several projects, including: the values, experiences and practices of veganic farmers; agronomic performance of veganic production; comparison of veganic and agroecological principles; and policy aspects of animal-free sustainable agriculture. Currently my focus is on possibilities for justice for non-human animals in agrifood system transitions, with Richard J. White.
I welcome contact from other researchers interested in collaboration on topics related to animal-free sustainable agriculture, including graduate and undergraduate students. Mentoring students whose research interests align with the move beyond animal-based agricultural systems is deeply meaningful to me. Most recently I have served as an external advisor on a Master's project in Portugal and a Ph.D. project in the US.
In the past, my research has explored urban sustainability planning and green infrastructure, with particular attention to alleyway revitalization and greenspace planning.
