Biography

Dr. Noelle Mitchell is an Instructor of Chemistry and Biochemistry with a background in chemical biology and biosensor development. She earned her B.A. in Chemistry from Pomona College and her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles, where her dissertation focused on developing DNA-based sensors for the detection of hormones and neurotransmitters with applications in personalized health monitoring. She also completed a visiting research appointment at Columbia University, expanding her expertise in nucleic acid engineering and biosensor development.

Before joining Loyola Marymount University, Dr. Mitchell served as the Robbins Postdoctoral Scholar in Chemistry at Pomona College, where she taught General Chemistry using an inquiry-based curriculum and mentored undergraduate researchers. She is passionate about creating engaging, student-centered learning environments that emphasize conceptual understanding, active learning, and the real-world applications of chemistry, helping students build confidence as scientists.
