Biography
Penny Pompei exemplifies the success achieved by combining strategic vision, entrepreneurial mindset, unlimited energy and high ethical standards in today’s challenging business world. After 20 years as a successful serial entrepreneur, she has dedicated the last decade to helping non-profit organizations achieve greater success in meeting the needs of its members and the communities they serve.
Her entrepreneurial vision was honed from a variety of entrepreneurial endeavors. Penny’s first business was a successful nationwide consulting, architecture, construction and design firm, PNI Architects, Inc., which she founded and built into a $10 million company with 100 employees . That was followed by a Travel Agency which she built to a million dollars in annual revenue in the shortest time on record for the worldwide franchise. She was also instrumental in the founding of a family-owned boutique winery, Villa Pompei Vineyards, in California’s wine country with her husband, Carl. Every wine produced by the winery was awarded a silver or bronze medal, and even won the prestigious gold medal at the International Wine Festival for the unique winery label which Ms. Pompei designed.
In recognition of her many business successes, Ms. Pompei was honored as San Francisco’s first “Woman Business Owner of the Year” and “Women Construction Owners & Executives Contractor of the Year.” She was also profiled as one of America’s 32 most successful women entrepreneurs in the Acropolis Books’ “America’s New Women Entrepreneurs.”
More recently, Ms. Pompei has directed her energies and strategic planning talents to the non-profit community after serving for many years on the Board of Directors of numerous trade and non-profit associations where she saw a need for better strategic decision making.
Serving as the CEO of the National Women’s Business Center in Washington, DC, and then the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce, she was recently appointed as the National Executive Director of Women Construction Owners & Executives, USA, an organization that is poised for dramatic growth as the general economy recovers from the recession.
Ms. Pompei lives in Arlington, VA with her husband (also a serial entrepreneur) and has a son, a stepson, a stepdaughter and four incredibly beautiful and talented grandsons!
