Biography

REBECCA RASMUSSEN is part of the adjunct faculty at the USC School of Social Work Virtual Academic Center. She became an external field instructor in 2012 and then a field liaison and adjunct lecturer in 2013. She currently teaches Virtual Field Practicum, integrative learning for social work practice and integrative learning for social work practice/field education. Previously, she taught social work policy and health care and advanced clinical social work interventions in health care.

She received her bachelor’s degree in social work from San Diego State University and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. After graduation, she served as education program coordinator for a youth program at a rural health center in a native Hawaiian community. The youth programs provided teens with the opportunity to learn health careers and shadow professionals at the agency. The teens were taught community organizing skills, and planned and organized community events to prevent tobacco, alcohol and substance use among youths.

Rasmussen then served in medical social work and mental health for eight years at Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree, California. She was the social services supervisor and later the clinical social work coordinator for the acute care, sub-acute care, emergency room, intensive care, labor and delivery, and long-term care units. As lead therapist in the center’s behavioral health program, she provided ongoing group and individual therapy to adults with chronic and persistent mental illness.
