Biography

Shawn Kelso began working with Welch LLP in 1993. He completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Ottawa, earned his CA designation in 1996 and became a Partner in 2008.

In 2005, Shawn was appointed Director of Professional Standards and is responsible for the compliance with Quality Assurance policy in all 12 of Welch’s offices. He is also responsible for ensuring all Quality Control directives, as set by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), are upheld on audit files as well as recommending and enforcing Welch’s internal quality assurance policies and procedures. In addition, Shawn provides training to all offices on a regular basis and on a wide variety of topics.

Shawn has conducted Practice Inspections on behalf of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO). He is also an instructor for the ICAO and the CICA and has presented the Accounting, Auditing and Professional Practice Update across Ontario.

While Shawn worked in the private sector, he developed expertise in pricing, financial controls and strategic planning. His role included the design and implementation of accounting policies and internal control procedures. In addition to his duties as Director of Professional Standards, Shawn also provides audit, accounting and business advisory services to private sector owner-managed businesses and not-for-profit organizations.

Coach: Ottawa Internationals Soccer Club’s Development Soccer Program (personal)

The DSP’s goal is to provide children in the Ottawa area with a progressive, six-year program that will develop a broad base of soccer skills in each child so that successful graduates will be capable of competing at high levels of soccer, as youth and as adults.
