Biography

Spiro grew up in a multi-ethnic family speaking Spanish, Greek, and English–and with this came a mash-up of Magical Realism and classical mythology, which primed him as a child to fall hard for the world-building fantasy of sci-fi, comic books, and "Star Wars."

Professionally, Spiro has written on and been involved in over 100 episodes of TV in the hour-long and the half-hour spaces including such hits as "George Lopez," "Grimm" and "Arrow." He also has experience on-set, in post, as well as prep and casting. In development, he co-created the web series "Chadam." He’s also pitched to FOX, The CW, Apple, Amazon and NBC. Spiro has sold three pilots, and developed several others with producers, and IP holders. In the feature world, Spiro has sold unproduced projects to Mar Vista, and continues to pitch and write features. Spiro brings real-life writing experiences to his teaching, sharing stories “from the trenches,” as well as practical methods to getting your script finished and rewritten.

Spiro has also contributed to the Hollywood and writers community through his volunteer work as the chair/co-chair of the WGA’s LGBTQ+ Committee (2018-2024), and as a founding member of TTIE, the Think Tank for Inclusion and Equity, which strives to make writers room a level playing field. In his free time, he likes painting and learning languages. He holds dual EU/USA citizenship.
