Biography
I grew up in Detroit, Michigan, the oldest of four siblings. I was not very mature as a teenager. As a result I made some poor choices. That has helped me relate to teens throughout my adult life. I am a certified director of Christian education in the Lutheran Church. I have worked for churches in Missouri, Illinois and Texas. My last position was as a high school counselor at a private Christian school in Dallas. I am a veteran basketball coach, having coached at the middle and high school level. In retirement I stay busy as a free-lance writer, speaker and hospital chaplain. My book, Parenting Without Guilt: Avoiding the 7 Things Parents do to Screw-Up Their Kids was published in 2009. My next book, Passing the Torch, Reaching the Social Media Generation will be released in early 2013.
I have been married to Barbara for 43 years. We have three adult children and three grandsons.

I was award the Master DCE Award for the TEAM Department of the Lutheran Education Association. The award is given to those who model excellents in the field of Christian Education. There are over six hundred DCE's and the award is presenting annually to one individual

A forty-five minute workshop highlights the seven mistakes, but focuses on the mistakes of confusing punishment with disciplines and being a manager instead of a consultant to your teens.
Passing the Torch
My presentation is based on my book, Passing the Torch: Reaching the Social Media Generation. My desire is not to judge the millennial generation, but rather to help older adults begin to understand them and their needs. The goal is to encourage adults to have a relationship with teens and young adults for the purpose of sharing faith and values.
