Biography

Tony Duke has over forty years experience as an Antiques and Collectibles Dealer and Professional Appraiser. Initially working under the tutelage of his father (himself a connoisseur and dealer of antiques), Tony trained as an Auctioneer with the Manchester-based auction house Artingstall & Hind. From there, Tony went on to open his own business specialising in 19th and early 20th century antiques and related furnishings.

After immigrating to Canada in 1990, Tony attended the University of Saskatchewan obtaining both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s Degree in History; his thesis pertaining to Highway Robbery in 18th century England. During his time at university, Tony continued to be actively involved with the Antiques trade, later opening ‘Blinking Star Antiques’ in Saskatoon.

Shortly after opening the store, Tony was approached by the producers of CBC’s Canadian Antiques Roadshow where he became a regular “Expert”, working with a group of other highly respected antique experts from across Canada. Tony is still in frequent contact with many of these Experts - with whom he consults and continues his on-going professional development.

Since moving to Vancouver Island, Tony has become a regular newspaper contributor where he shares tips and advice relating to antiques and the antique trade. Tony can also be found participating in charity Roadshow-type fundraising events, and giving talks and workshops for those interested in expanding their knowledge base.

Tony is a treasure hunter - always looking for the invaluable stories and history that antiques carry with them.
