Biography
Dr Veronica Broomes is an experienced professional with specialist knowledge of Sustainability, Climate Change and has worked as a Trainer, Consultant and Researcher, including in developing countries in the Caribbean and sub-Saharan Africa, in agriculture research, social and environmental impact assessments for infrastructure projects. She has conducted sustainability audits of small and medium-size businesses in urban areas in the United Kingdom with many owners with developing country origins and has prepared Environmental Management/Sustainability Action Plans to foster adaptation to climate change through reducing carbon emissions and increasing efficiency in use of resources and business costs. In addition, she has helped businesses in urban areas develop policy statements to raise business credibility on environmental and sustainability issues. In the recent past, one of Veronica’s more outstanding contributions has been a two-country case study on policy research linking inward investment, local suppliers and national development objectives in Central American and African countries (Commonwealth member countries).
With more than 15 years experience in engaging with various groups of stakeholders and senior level decision-makers in NGOs, private sector organisations as well as government agencies and international organisations, Veronica's research led to the creation of the concept of 'Triple Win CSR' which serves as a catalyst to increase the impact of investments through creating greater developmental impact. Veronica’s professional background includes role as a Part-time Lecturer on biodiversity, adaptation to climate change in agriculture (SIDs) and consultancy and research on Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility linked with policies on inward investments and MDGs in developing countries. Veronica has worked as a member of multi-disciplinary teams to manage assignments, facilitated stakeholder consultations and conferences. Having worked independently on many assignments, she is a self-starter with well-developed analytical and problem solving skills to see opportunities not obstacles in challenges and the promotion of collaborative working.
