Biography
Vivien Villaverde is a clinical associate professor in field education. She is the field education coordinator for the Community, Organization, and Business Innovation department. In this capacity, she is responsible for developing and maintaining all community collaborations and partnerships with local agencies and organizations that host internships for Master of Social Work COBI students. She manages, coordinates and monitors MSW field placement internships for COBI students.
Villaverde also works as the teaching institution coordinator for the field education department. She serves as lead coordinator in developing large-scale partnerships with organizations to become USC School of Social Work teaching institutions. She also works as a consultant to teaching institutions, linking partners to resources, providing technical training, assisting in program development, and brokering teaching institution-faculty partnerships in research and project development based on the interests and needs of the institution. She has facilitated the introduction of the social work profession to different school districts and has helped to build the infrastructure to create or increase social work services within schools.
A licensed clinical social worker with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential, Villaverde previously served as a psychiatric social worker within the Los Angeles Unified School District. Over her nine-year tenure, she held multiple positions, including a leadership role, and posts in program development, program management and collaborative coordination. She worked closely with Los Angeles County agencies, such as the Department of Probation, Department of Mental Health, and Department of Children and Family Services.
Villaverde has delivered numerous presentations on evidence-based practice and trauma, disaster preparedness planning, coordinated services and capacity building at conferences for several organizations, such as the Council on Social Work Education, Network for Social Work Management, School Social Work Association of America, The American Council for School Social Work and the International Consortium for Social Development. She is part of the School of Social Work’s faculty team that collaborates and works with the Department of Education and the U.S. Peace Corps in the Philippines.
