How A $10 Stove Changed The World
Biography
Yusuf Tura is an extraordinary human being with an extraordinary story.
His story starts when he was just a young shepherd in Ethiopia amidst a terrible civil war in his homeland. He was forced to flee the country and found safety in a Kenyan refugee camp.
Life was hard, but less hard then the situation he left behind. His life would change after he was brought to the United States after being picked up from his camp by a church group.
He was shown a different world of safety, kindness, and care. It was then Yusuf was changed forever and inspired to return the acts of safety, kindness, and care he received to his homeland and the world.
Yusuf would go on to found a non-profit organization that creates and provides energy-efficient cooking stoves to impoverished families that offer a sustainable cooking alternative while reducing harmful pollutants and devastating deforestation in the region.
These stoves are made from scrap metal that cost less than $10 and literally transform lives. Not only do they reduce the risk of open fires which are the cause of many deaths each year, but reduce the current environmental impact of finding fuel for cooking.
In most parts of Africa, 95% of the forests have been cut down and some countries are close to complete environmental collapse, but Yusuf’s stoves, which burn clean, natural fuel, have saved the few trees that remain.
Families can now cook safely, with minimal impact on the environment. Children can now spend more time on education, instead of searching for fuel to cook. There is less violence, as people no longer need to fight for the scarce wood once needed to eat.
You see, a lot can be done by a person with purpose. Yusuf has shown the world how a small investment of $10 can make the world a much better place.
He’ll show how his non-profit, Green Energy Without Borders, is lifting thousands out of poverty, training villagers to build stoves and a sales force to sell them, boosting local economies and giving impoverished communities new hope.
Yusuf created EcoInspirational as a platform to share his story with the world to create awareness and spread hope. Donations and speaking fees provided to EcoInspirational help provide funding toward Yusuf’s vision of a safer and better world.
