Noah Allison

I am an urban scholar working at the intersection of geography, anthropology, and urban planning. My ethnographic research broadly examines the everyday experiences of uneven urban conditions. I have explored the forces shaping these dynamics through research centered on various processes, sites, and practices, including diasporic settlements, small businesses, public spaces, street vending, domestic labor, panhandling, and municipal food programs. Currently, I am undertaking two projects. The first investigates the emergence and governance of a multiethnic suburb in New Jersey, and the second examines the effects of private security practices in ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods in Los Angeles and New York. Prior to my academic career, I worked for nearly a decade as an urban planner and architectural historian.
