Quinetta M. Roberson is the John A. Hannah Distinguished Professor of Management and Psychology at Michigan State University. Prior to her current position, she was an endowed chair at Villanova University and a tenured professor at Cornell University. She has also been a visiting scholar at universities on every continent, except for Antarctica, and served as Program Officer of the Science of Organizations program at the National Science Foundation (NSF). Professor Roberson served as President of the Academy of Management (AOM) from 2020-2021.  

Professor Roberson's research interests focus on developing organizational capability and enhancing effectiveness through the strategic management of people, particularly diverse work teams. Her research has appeared in such journals as the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Annals, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Organizational Research Methods and Personnel Psychology. She also edited a Handbook of Diversity in the Workplace published by Oxford Press and serves as co-editor of the Research in Social Issues in Management book series. Professor Roberson is a Deputy Editor for Academy of Management Journal (2022-2025) and served as Associate Editor for Journal of Applied Psychology (2008-2014).    

Professor Roberson has over 24 years of experience teaching courses and workshops globally on diversity, leadership, and talent management. To translate her research into action, Dr. Roberson provides professional advice and guidance to for-profit and non-profit organizations on creating value and delivering on business strategy through diversity and inclusion. She also is a two-time TEDx speaker, serves on several corporate boards and advisory councils, and has been recognized as one of the most influential female scholars and scholars of color on social media around issues of responsible business. Both her scholarly work and research-in-action are informed by Professor Roberson's background in finance, having worked as a financial analyst prior to obtaining her PhD from the University of Maryland.

John A. Hannah Professor of Organizational Behavior

Quinetta Roberson is a Professor of Management in the Villanova School of Business. She earned her PhD in organizational behavior from the University of Maryland, and holds an MBA in finance and strategy from the University of Pittsburgh and a BS in finance and accounting from the University of Delaware. Professor Roberson's research focuses on understanding how to enhance fairness in work teams and how the management of diversity can improve organizational effectiveness. Her research has appeared in several management and psychology journals, and she is the editor of a Handbook of Diversity in the Workplace published by Oxford University Press. When Professor Roberson is not working on her research, she teaches courses globally on human resource management at the undergraduate, graduate and executive levels.

Professor Roberson is a social scientist, and enjoys being social as much as she enjoys being a scientist. She is an avid traveler, having lived in Milan, given presentations in over 20 countries, hiked Machu Picchu, and gone on safari in South Africa. She considers herself an oenophile and earned a Baccalauréat Vigne et Vin in 2012. She has been snowboarding for 10+ years and raced in Aspen this year. In the true sense of social science, Professor Roberson believes that "all life is an experiment; the more experiments you make, the better" (Ralph Waldo Emerson). It is this belief that also motivated her to discover how she could combine her knowledge and experience with others in the Villanova community to create, innovate and inspire.

Quinetta Roberson, Ph.D. is the John A. Hannah Distinguished Professor of Management and Psychology at Michigan State University. Prior to her current position, she was an Endowed Chair at Villanova University and a tenured professor at Cornell. She has been a visiting scholar at universities on six continents and has more than 20 years of global experience in teaching courses, facilitating workshops, and advising organizations on diversity, equity, & inclusion. She has published over 40 journal articles and book chapters and edited a Handbook of Diversity in the Workplace (2013). Her research and consulting work focus on developing organizational capability and enhancing effectiveness through diversity, equity & inclusion, and is informed by her work experiences, having worked as a financial analyst and small business consultant prior to obtaining her doctorate.  She earned her Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from the University of Maryland and holds two degrees in Finance. The Future Forum hosted the Academic Summit on Diversity, Equity, and Belonging in the Workplace on October 27, 2020 to share the academic perspective on two key themes: how to build an anti-racist organization and the future of how teams should operate.

In this video, Quinetta Roberson, John A. Hannah Distinguished Professor of Management at Michigan State University, shares an overview of her research on creating a team culture of belonging. According to Roberson, there are four pillars of creating a culture of belonging at scale: understanding and valuing differences, focusing on team skill-sets and collaboration, skill utilization and enabling employees to have a strong voice.
