Like it or not, theme parks are becoming smartphone friendly. And it’s not cheap. Disney, Universal Studios and Six Flags have all spent millions of dollars upgrading hot-spots and Wi-Fi access in parks to ensure customers are engaged, online and able to capture, like and share every moment of their park experience.
Some parks are taking it a step further with downloadable apps (at a price) that help customers cut down wait times for lines and provide entertainment to those stuck waiting to get on a ride.
Farmingdale’s Dr. Martin Lewison was recently quoted by the Los Angeles Times about this new trend and how the traditional customer habits and profile has changed.
“There is an entire new industry of people posting pictures, going live, streaming while at a theme park or creating photo reports,” said Martin Lewison, a theme park expert and business management professor at Farmingdale State College in New York.
