Political scientist focuses on women in politics, sheriffs races

A record number of female candidates are running for president in 2020, and Tulane political scientist Mirya Holman tells VOX voters will have to evaluate the candidates on more than their gender.

Holman studies the intersection of gender and politics at the local, state and federal levels. Her current research includes gender and political ambition, how local politics change when cities encounter financial distresses, the role of religious beliefs in political attitudes and actions, gender and the 2016 election, and the pathways to political office.
