Ambreen Nisar, Ph.D.

Dr. Ambreen Nisar joins Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. She will establish a research program focused on additive manufacturing (AM) of advanced ceramics for extreme-environment applications in aerospace, energy, and nuclear systems. She earned her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, India. She completed postdoctoral research at the University of British Columbia (UBC), before joining Florida International University (FIU), where she advanced from postdoctoral researcher to Research Assistant Professor. Her research integrates 3D printing, cold spray deposition, spark plasma sintering, interfacial joining, and AI-enabled process optimization. Dr. Nisar brings extensive federally funded research experience as PI and Co-PI, including projects supported by ONR, DARPA, and NASA. Dr. Nisar has authored more than 55 peer-reviewed publications, holds over 10 U.S. patents, and was recognized as a Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors in 2024.
