Dan Estes, Ph.D.

Daniel J. Estes, Ph.D., is Distinguished Professor of Old Testament at Cedarville University. He teaches Bible courses that include spiritual formation and Christian worldview integration and has served Cedarville for more than four decades.

His academic work focuses on biblical exegesis, the Psalms and Old Testament wisdom literature. His writing includes studies and commentaries on Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs and the broader wisdom books of the Old Testament.

Dr. Estes began his professional ministry in pastoral service before joining Cedarville’s faculty in 1984. At the university, he has taught biblical languages and Bible courses, mentored students and contributed to the university’s work in biblical and theological studies.

Dr. Estes, after decades of studying and teaching the Psalms, published a two-volume commentary series on the Book of Psalms as part of the New American Commentary series, published by B&H Publishing Group.

He earned a B.A. in preseminary Bible and English from Cedarville University, a Th.M. in Old Testament exegesis from Dallas Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. in biblical exegesis from the University of Cambridge. He was elected to life membership in Clare Hall, Cambridge, in 2005.
