Biography
Daniel Haun is a media scholar, graphic designer, photographer, filmmaker, musician, and DJ in addition to his teaching and scholarship. His scholarly interests include brand and consumer interaction on social media platforms. Prior to his academic career, Haun spent six years in the United States Army as a photographer and public affairs specialist with the 300th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment. He deployed to the Logar and Wardak provinces of Afghanistan in 2010 with the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team for Operation Enduring Freedom. Haun studied art history and studio art at the University of Kentucky, specializing in photography, then pursued an M.F.A. at Penn’s School of Design studying new media and time-based media, and a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina in Mass Communication and Media Studies. Haun presented his M.F.A. art exhibition Down to Earth / Terre à Terre / Van Nature in Brussels. Haun received the Graduate Student Teaching award at the University of South Carolina, as well as the Donald G. Hileman Teacher of the Year award from the American Advertising Federation. He had the top student paper at the 44th AEJMC southeast colloquium in Columbia, South Carolina, and top faculty paper at the 105th AEJMC national conference. Haun created portfolio reviews as AAF District 7 Director of College Chapters, and founder of the American Advertising Federation Mighty Mentors Podcast for students.
