Biography
Mr. Hodgson is responsible for overseeing the Board's macro-economic outlook products, tourism, custom economic research, and is the Board’s chief spokesperson on economic issues.
He has published over 170 articles and briefings and is the editor and a contributing author of the book Crisis and Intervention: Lessons from the Financial Meltdown and Recession, published in November 2010. He has written extensively on Canadian tax reform and is co-authoring a series of briefings on the economics of pro sports in Canada. Glen is leading a high-profile research initiative at the Conference Board, the Canadian Alliance for Sustainable Health Care (CAHSC), just as he led the creation of the Board’s International Trade and Investment Centre.
Mr. Hodgson joined the Board in September 2004, after 10 years at Export Development Canada (EDC). He also spent a decade with the federal Department of Finance. From 1984 to 1988, Mr. Hodgson served at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington D.C., as Advisor/Assistant to the Executive Director for Canada, Ireland and the Caribbean.
Mr. Hodgson has an M.A. in Economics from McGill University and pursued Ph.D. studies at McGill. He is currently the president of the Ottawa Economics Association. He resides in Ottawa with his wife and younger of two sons, and coached youth sports for many years.

The Economic Outlook: A Tepid Recovery in Turbulent Times
This workshop is for everyone who would like to better understand the current economic climate, why our current tepid economic recovery is not typical, and why we need to be careful how we interpret the numbers. The presentation will begin with an overview of developments in the global economy, particularly euro-zone and U.S. developments and implications for global growth, and will be followed by an overview of the Canadian economy, and where businesses should focus to remain competitive.

The Conference Board of Canada provides comprehensive economic forecasts and analysis of the global and national economy and of key sectors like agri-food. Glen Hodgson’s presentation will examine current developments in the global economy, such as the financial crisis in Europe; the Canadian economic outlook; Canada’s agri-food sector, domestically and globally; and future prospects.
Intellectual Property Rights and the Global Economic Slowdown
Does Canada’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) regime foster and reward innovation? How can IP policies promote business innovation, competitiveness, and productivity? Glen Hodgson will connect the findings of the latest economic and IPR research as he sets the scene for the conference. Glen will be joined by the IPR research collaborators for a dynamic question and answer session on today’s IPR challenges and opportunities.
