Jason Jamerson is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of experiential narrative and the forefront of digital media.
Biography
Jason holds a joint appointment in the School of Art and the School of Theatre, teaches class related to film production, animation, game design, VFX, and digital asset creation, manages the XR Studio in the Digital Media Center, and pursues research related to computer simulations of digital environments for media and design practice.
Jason worked in New York City for eleven years as a Production Designer, Design Supervisor, and VFX artist. He received his MFA from the University of Arizona’s School of Theatre, Film, and Television. He taught Scenic Design and Virtual Production in Nebraska for three years, where he led the New Paradigm Media Committee, before coming to LSU.
He is passionate about developing artists who explore authentic, driven storytelling and the rapidly changing toolset we use to create it, including digital environments, animation, game engines, virtual film studios, and A.I.

Virtual Production & XR Storytelling
Prof. Jamerson’s research focuses on virtual production, XR storytelling, and AI-assisted design, exploring how immersive media and digital twins reshape narrative and creative practice. He combines LED-wall stages, real-time game engines, and motion-capture workflows at LSU’s XR Studio to prototype experiential narratives, train students, and advance industry-ready production pipelines.

"We're going to offer another one. We're going to also offer cinematography. We're going to offer film sound. We're able to get specific and the students will be able to get more high-end and really specific training and get a job after their time here," Jamerson said.

Jason Jamerson, LSU assistant professor of Virtual Production and Immersive Media who holds a joint appointment in the School of Art and the School of Theatre, has been using the virtual studio to teach film production classes. “We’ve created music videos, documentary segments and have shot tests for weather, commercials and infomercials,” Jamerson said. “The ability to track the camera and get parallax offers so many advantages over a green screen. I’m planning on moving my film production class to the studio so we can work with the equipment full time.”
