Biography
Before joining Cedarville, Bates served at Ferris State University’s College of Pharmacy as assistant dean and director of student success. In 2013, he founded a pharmacy care clinic within Ferris State’s College of Pharmacy, providing students with opportunities to develop clinical skills while serving underserved patients in and around Mecosta County.
His clinical and teaching interests include clinical communication, self-care and over-the-counter medication therapeutics, geriatric care, pharmacy practice skills and academic pharmacy. He also shared clinical responsibilities in an interdisciplinary diabetes clinic involving pharmacy, optometry and nursing students.
Bates has received more than $130,000 in grants and has presented on state and national platforms. His professional work includes pharmacy education, student well-being, medication safety, care for older adults and the development of pharmacists prepared to serve patients through collaborative, patient-centered practice.
