Jonathan Arnold, D.Phil.

Jonathan Arnold, D.Phil., is associate dean of the School of Biblical and Theological Studies and associate professor of theological studies at Cedarville University. He teaches and writes in the areas of historical theology, church history and theological education.

His research focuses on the theology of the early modern Trans-Atlantic world, Puritanism, 17th-century Baptists, the history of education and educational theory, and the spiritual formation of the church. His work connects historical study with questions about Christian teaching, institutional life and the formation of students and congregations.

Arnold is the author of The Reformed Theology of Benjamin Keach and an editor of Cloud of Witnesses: A Treasury of Prayers and Petitions Through the Ages. His scholarly work also includes contributions on historical theology, Scripture and Christian education.

Before joining Cedarville in August 2022, Arnold served in administrative, pastoral and faculty roles in Christian higher education. He holds a DPhil in ecclesiastical history and an M.St. in historiography from the University of Oxford, a Th.M. in systematic theology and pastoral leadership from Dallas Theological Seminary, and a B.A. in psychology from The University of the South.
