Professor Robert Morgan is a Professor of Thermal Propulsion Systems in the Advanced Engineering Centre at the University of Brighton. His expertise is in transport engine systems, energy systems, energy storage, low emissions combustion and waste heat recovery. He leads a team that is devising a revolutionary type of engine (called a split cycle engine) that provides far better energy efficiency than a fuel cell. He is also working on a new type of propulsion device and a new combustion engine approach that has no toxic emissions.
 
Robert previously worked in industry - with Ricardo (transport engineers), Ceres Power, and as Chief Technical Officer at Highview Power Storage (storage for windfarm-generated energy). He is a co-founder of the Impact Factory, an initiative that brings enterprise, academia and teaching together to address the ‘messy problems’ arising from the sustainability crisis.  He is joint secretary to the Universities Internal Combustion Engines Group and a member of the IMechE Powertrain Systems and Fuels Group.
