WestJet's Back - But What Do Wide Skies and a Crowded Market Mean for Sudbury Travellers?

As of next year, there are now more choices for Sudburians winging it. Welcome Back to Sudbury, WestJet after a 15-year hiatus!

This is certainly good news for consumers or is it?

The skies over Sudbury are about to get crowded with Air Canada, Porter, Bear Skin and now WestJet.

WestJet is going to start with one flight in February and build to three flights in May.

But is there enough business to sustain the big three Canadian airlines?

How will intense competition benefit the flying consumer?

Sudbury to Toronto certainly opens an entire world of airline routes.

There are two types of flyers – those traveling on business and those traveling for vacation.

It’s the former group that airlines work so hard to impress with their on-time schedules at competitive rates. They hope to woo these on-the-road warriors to book their vacations with them.

The latter group, Vacation travelers are looking for trust – trust in their airline and trust in their vacationer supplier along with their product offerings to meet or exceed their expectations.

But will prices go up? Will they go down? Is three a crowd in a limited market like Sudbury?

Time will tell.
