Phyllis Zagano, Senior Research Associate-in-Residence, was interviewed by numerous media outlets following the passing of Pope Francis on April 21, 2025.


Dr. Zagano is one of the world’s foremost experts on the question of women deacons and in 2016 was appointed to serve on Pope Francis’ “Commission of Study on the Diaconate of Women” to study this issue. She was the only commissioner to travel from the Western Hemisphere.

Should networks have given him the TV time?"
