What might we learn from the Artemis II mission?
Eric Burns

One of the most critical things we're learning from Artemis II is how the human body responds to deep space radiation. In low Earth orbit, we're still partially shielded by Earth's magnetic field. Beyond that, astronauts are exposed to galactic cosmic rays and solar particle events that we can't fully simulate on the ground. The mission is actually carrying organ-on-a-chip devices — tiny engineered tissues — to study in real time how radiation and microgravity affect human health at the cellular level. That's cutting-edge biology happening a quarter million miles from Earth.
