Education and information sharing about diabetes a priority for CDA
Today, the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) launched its official Speakers Bureau, featuring an array of experts covering all aspects of diabetes. This new resource, complete with multimedia profiles, makes it easier and faster to find Canadian experts for commentary on a story, or to explain the latest research findings.
“The CDA is committed to educating the public about diabetes and our Speakers Bureau allows us to reach even more people with information about the diabetes epidemic in Canada,” says President and CEO, Rick Blickstead. “Our speakers will help us reach journalists, government, and conference planners with accurate information based on our world-leading Clinical Practice Guidelines and the most recent research.”
“I am excited to participate in this new program, as I know the importance of sharing trusted information about diabetes with the public. With an increasing number of Canadians being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, it is imperative that we look at new ways to share information about treatments, research and prevention,” says Dr. Alice Cheng, endocrinologist and associate editor at the Canadian Journal of Diabetes.
About The CDA – The CDA is the registered national charity that helps the more than 10 million Canadians with diabetes or prediabetes live healthy lives, while also educating those at risk. In communities across Canada, the CDA:
- offers a wide array of support services to members of the public
- offers resources to health-care professionals on best practices to care for people with diabetes
- advocates to governments, schools, workplaces and others on behalf of people with diabetes
- funds research on better treatments and to find a cure
