Biography
With more than 20 years of experience in caring for childbearing women, Dr. Maldonado is an excellent source on maternal-child health, pregnancy and prenatal care, maternal and fetal outcomes, and caring for childbearing women in vulnerable populations. Dr. Maldonado is well published on the subjects of maternal caregiving demands, and Latina intergenerational caregiving, and has been an academic guest lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania for the Midwifery Program. Her current research explores why Puerto Rican women in particular have poorer maternal/fetal outcomes than other subsets of Latina women, and how prenatal care for vulnerable populations can be improved. Dr. Maldonado is also well-versed in the history of nursing surrounding vulnerable women and children.
