Biography

SOFIA REDDY, a licensed independent clinical social worker in Massachusetts, teaches courses in military social work at the Virtual Academic Center. She specializes in providing mental health services to veterans diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and substance use disorders, as well as other comorbid diagnoses. She currently serves as a social worker in the Mental Health Service Line at Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System and is also designated as the facility’s intimate partner violence co-coordinator.

Previously, Reddy served as VA Boston’s military sexual trauma coordinator, providing education and training to veterans, staff and trainees on VA services available to MST survivors as well as guidance on implementing evidence-informed practices. In addition to her role as social worker in the outpatient mental health services department, she also served on the Massachusetts governor’s subcommittee to address MST and provide seamless access to services in the state. She has spoken regionally and nationally about MST, its impact on male and female veterans, and the use of evidence-informed treatments with survivors. She also worked as a member of the national social work education committee to implement trainings for social workers throughout the VA.

Prior to her appointment at the VA, Reddy provided mental health services to adults with serious mental illness in the private sector. As an assistant program director in a community-based partial hospital/day treatment program, she collaborated with the Department of Mental Health and other agencies to assist clients transitioning to the community from inpatient levels of care. She has also provided clinical social work services to children and adolescents admitted for inpatient mental health care at a private psychiatric hospital in Houston, Texas.

Reddy is passionate about providing collaborative evidence-informed treatments to veterans and their families. She also provides trainings and education on self-care to prevent burnout for social workers.
